A Second Visit: Kapitolyo Chronicles

For our second travel to Kapitolyo, we both had burger cravings. Luckily, Charlie’s Grind and Grill is just within the area.

We both love Charlie’s because they really know how to do their burgers! We chose to dine al fresco. The ordering station is just a normal counter, nothing fancy.

We got the Double Black Angus Cheeseburger and the Bacon Wagyu Cheeseburger upgraded with fries (add Php 45). I also ordered the Wagyu Cheese Steak, which is their version of a cheesesteak sandwich.

They have a wide array of condiments that you can use either as a dip or as a dressing to your burger.

Double Black Angus Cheeseburger (Php 330) is packed with two quarter pound patties with two slices of American cheese topped with a big slice of tomato and lettuce. Double quarter pounder goodness!

My Bacon Wagyu Cheeseburger (Php 245) had just a single patty with a big and thick strip of bacon. The bacon was a bit underdone for my liking, but it was still good.

The black angus, and wagyu patties had its own distinct flavors. I prefer the wagyu since it has a bolder flavor, while Kyle prefers the black angus because of its more familiar taste.

For the Wagyu Cheese Steak (Php 295), we loved how meaty and cheesy it was!

Charlie’s never fails to satisfy our burger cravings. My only wish is that they could open up a branch that is more accessible.

A first of many. The Kapitolyo Chronicles

I've long been intrigued about the Kapitolyo food spot, and last night we agreed to pay it a visit.

Overwhelmed with the offerings of this area, I decided that we go give Poco Deli a shot, since I have been hearing such good news about this restaurant.

Dining area is really limited and it's advisable to have reservations. We were lucky enough to be seated after just a 10-minute wait. I noticed that they have a deli counter that featured different types of home-made sausages, which you can also get to-go.

Browsing through their menu revealed that they had a lot of interesting dishes, but when I saw the Bacon Slab, I told Kyle that we are definitely having that. To add to our selection, we also got the Pumpkin Soup (I'm a sucker for pumpkin soup!) and a single order of the German Sausage and Cheese Platter.

Arriving first was the Pumpkin Soup (Php 140).

Pumpkin Soup

It had a very thick consistency, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment for me. It was nowhere near the taste of the usual pumpkin soup that  I've had. It tasted more like gravy... :(

Not really a good start.

We eagerly waited for the Bacon Slab (Php 380) and the Sausage and Cheese Platter (Php 360), and hoped that it would compensate for the bad pumpkin soup. They did not disappoint!

The Bacon Slab boasted its majestic, thick and fatty slabs! This is seriously "the mother of all bacon"! It was served with two sunny side up eggs on top of a cup of steaming, hot, bacon rice. The eggs were a bit overdone for our liking, but it was very negligible. The bacon slabs were grilled just right for that mild smoky flavor. Every bite resulted to an explosion of savory juices, as if playing a symphony inside your mouth, followed by a spoonful of bacon rice to close the deal.

The Sausage and Cheese Platter had three kinds of sausages and cheese, accompanied by toasted bagel chips and sauerkraut. We opted to try their frankfurter, cheese krainer, and chicken sausage. For the cheese, we selected the Manchego and Emmental. The sausages were crisp, meaty and juicy.

Meat overload!!!

We ended up finishing the sausage platter and taking home more than half of the bacon slab. It was just too much cholesterol for two people!
