I just got Lucky!

It's been a while since I visited McKinley Hills, and I'm really glad I did last night. We had our dinner at Lucky's Burger Bar, Tuscany. We've already dined here when it was still The Burgery, our prior experience was only so-so, and I was hoping that they would redeem themselves with this major change.

We've been wanting to try their Crispy Bacon and Egg (who doesn't love bacon?), which is their version of the Baconsilog. We've read and seen a lot of good things about this dish, and we are undeniably excited to experience it for the low and affordable price of Php 183. Another item from their menu that caught my eye was the Ultimate Butter Fried Cheese Sandwich (Php 168). I've been having random grilled cheese sandwich cravings, and now, I finally got to satisfy it!

So we anxiously waited for our food, and it was my sandwich that first came out... Speechless! I was caught off guard and did not expect to see such a wonderful piece of sandwich. I had the biggest smile and was drooling while I took pictures of my ULTIMATE Butter Fried Cheese Sandwich.

20141209_205750

Perfectly toasted bread stuffed with half an inch thick cheese (American cheddar), drizzled with maple syrup and served with Tomato Cream Soup. It was served on top of a wooden chopping board type of plate, which made it look even more lovely.

20141209_205809                20141209_205817

I took a bite and I think I died and went to grilled cheese sandwich heaven! I love that the maple syrup perfectly complimented the sandwich. Dip the sandwich in the soup and you'll be in for a medley of delicate flavors. It really is the ULTIMATE!

While I was having a moment with my sandwich, the "main event" was served. Behold! Bacon, bacon and more bacon!!

Generous pile of deep fried bacon served with a side of fried rice and topped with a sous-vide egg. Now that was a mouthful.

The bacon strips were crunchy to the point like it was like eating chicken skin! The egg was presented like a gem and Kyle enjoyed this for his last bite. This is probably the mother of all comfort food!

The Burgery, or should I say the now Lucky's has redeemed itself in my list! It would probably be one of my go-to places for delicious and affordable dishes! Two thumbs up!

Myth Busted

For quite some time now, I've been hearing and reading a lot of good feedback about the food at Grams Diner. I must admit that I was a bit skeptic to try their food since I found their offerings a bit pricey. But my curiosity to try the famed "World Famous Tapa" was enough for me to choose to dine here over Mercato.

The place wasn't packed, and we were able to get good seats. So we browsed through their menu and got the World Famous Tapa (dinner size - Php 460), Smothered Chicken (Php 350) and an order of their Bottomless Iced Tea (Php 105).

20141128_202213    20141128_202205    20141128_202429

Their iced tea was served in a mason jar, and it had a very light and refreshing lemony flavor. We were pleasantly surprised when the tapa was served, because of the generous serving size. An order comes with a serving of rice and 2 eggs done your way.

Their tapa is more into the crunchy style than your usual juicy and "saucy" tapa. Unfortunately, the taste was no where near to being "world famous" in my book. The meat tasted similar to the skin of Jollibee's Chicken Joy (so sad). For the price, it was utterly disappointing and definitely not worth it. In a heartbeat, I would go for Mr. Jone's or Banapple's yummy tapa!

So the Smothered Chicken was served, and I was not impressed with the presentation. I was expecting a dish that was "smothered" with cheese, but what I got was just a slice of cheese (American Cheddar, I think), melted on top of the grilled chicken. On the up side, it was served with a side of home-made mashed potatoes and buttered vegetables.

As to the taste of the chicken, it was also not impressive. The chicken skin had a lot of charred parts, which became the dominant flavor of the dish. Nothing special about it.

The only thing that we both loved about dining here was just the Bottomless Iced Tea. With the amount that we spent, we should have just filled our tummies at Mercato.

Belo Nutraceuticals

Being a girl who's a year away from turning 30, I try to look for ways and products that could help me take care and maintain a youthful skin. So when Belo launched this new product, I was giddy to try it out. Luckily, they partnered with Sample Room, where I had the opportunity to grab one.

20141027_230613

I was able to get the Belo Collagen Powder (box of 14 sachets; costs Php 1,592.50) and the Belo Glutathione with Collagen capsules (2 packs of 10s capsule; costs Php 480 per pack). This is a very good example on the value that you get with your points, specially if you get the VIP package!

Moving on. I'm very skeptic when it comes to powder drinks since I don't like altering the taste of my food /drink. But, after reading the Editor's Pick full review from Sampleroom, I had high hopes for this product that it would not taste bad. Unfortunately, it did...

I first mixed it with my evening coffee, and it made a drastic, unappealing, change in the taste. It actually reminded me of the taste of the antibiotic, Amoxicillin, which I hate. I still forced myself to finish my drink since it would be such a waste not to and I do want to save my skin from any more internal deterioration. I also took it with the Belo Glutathione with Collagen capsules.

Belo 2

For the second day, I tried mixing the collagen powder with a different coffee brand, hoping that the taste would improve. Again, it didn't...it felt like I was sipping on melted antibiotics. :(

After a few more tries, I finally discovered that it goes well with cream soup. I prefer pumpkin, but any cream based soup will do.

On another note, it's very convenient to bring since it is packed in small sachets. However, the sachet can't be easily torn using your fingers. Also, it doesn't really dissolve easily, even though the water that I use is really hot.

I've actually consumed all the contents of the box and the capsules, and I noticed that my skin now has a natural glow and feels healthier. I believe that these products are best taken together for optimum results. The price is a bit steep, but I know that the product will work better with continued use, so I might consider purchasing it.

Thank you so much Sample Room and Belo Nutraceuticals!

Maginhawa Food Trip

Last Thursday, me and my good buddy Stephen went on a food-venture at the Maginhawa strip.

Well known for its diverse offerings of yummy and affordable food, we were ready to go into a food battle!

We originally planned on going to at least five (5) restaurants to personally experience what the rave is all about. So, how did we do?

First Stop:

STUFF OVER BURGERS

20141106_191824

The place was really small, with seating capacity of a maximum of 16 people. It looked literally like a house that was converted to a restaurant. Good plus was that the place was cool enough and we were able to get the high-seats.

We already did our research beforehand so we ordered the Hungry Daisy Meal (Php 220). Since we didn't want to get full after just one meal, we had it split in two.

Took photos while waiting for our meal.

 20141106_184125    20141106_184159   20141106_184930

Hungry Daisy is described as 100% pure beef patty loaded with smoked bacon, caramelized onions and cheddar, served with fresh lettuce, tomato and onion.

20141106_185123  20141106_185158    20141106_185211

The Verdict:

The burger patty was grilled just right and had a good bite. As to the flavor, it had a very strong barbecue taste  (which was nowhere in the description, by the way) that killed the natural flavor of the beef. I had to use the mayonnaise to tone down the strong barbecue taste. Another thing was that both of us were looking for the bacon part, but there was no trace of it. As you can see, there's a small slice of tomato on top of the patty. The burger itself was rather heavy and I somewhat felt full with my half.

The fries had good texture but lacked seasoning.

Overall, there was nothing special about it.

Rating: 2.5/5

Second Stop

ALLY'S ALL DAY BREAKFAST

Breakfast for dessert? Why not? :)

Our second stop was the very homey Ally's. We loved the interior, as it exuded a very light and relaxing feel.

When we browsed over the menu, we felt overwhelmed by the variety of the pancakes, waffles and french toasts available. We first contemplated on getting french toasts, but feared that it may not be enough for the two of us. Luckily, we saw the pancakes served on another table, and it was big!

We ordered the Death By Chocolate (Php 250), which belonged to their Signature Pancakes selection. An order from their Signature Pancakes comes with a complimentary glass of iced tea. For the Death by Chocolate, however, it comes with Hot Chocolate.

The Hot Chocolate was served first, and the pancake followed shortly, majestically boasting its size!

20141106_195412      20141106_194830 - Copy       20141106_195404 - Copy

The Hot Chocolate was perfect to warm our tummies and to prepare us for our big dessert. It had a good cocoa taste at first, although it started tasting bland during the middle up to the end. It could have been due to the fact that we were also eating chocolate flavored pancake.

Three layers of chocolatey pancake goodness! The pancake was moist and fluffy on the inside, while the outside had the texture close to a crepe. The chocolate ice cream complemented the dish, perfectly!

20141106_195730

We loved it! Although, it is heavy for just two people (considering that we had a burger before this), and the chocolate can be a bit too much after each of finished eating 1/4 of it. We managed to gobble up 3/4 of the entire serving and promised not to eat nor talk about chocolates and/or pancake for a 2 days (haha!)

After stuffing ourselves, we took the opportunity to take pictures of the lovely place. We love the wall designs!

20141106_203806      20141106_210547      received_10203810178549802

After our very filling dessert, we felt like sippin' on a warm cup of tea, so we travelled back to Cool Beans.

Third Stop

Cool Beans Library Cafe

As the name implies, Cool Beans is basically a library-style cafe, where you can read your favorite book (or comic book) while sipping on your preferred drink.

Since we just came from a very heavy meal, and just wanted something to settle our tummies, we each got ourselves a hot tea. Cool Beans offers Twinnings for their tea selection. A serving of hot tea costs a whopping Php 70, part of the price I think would be for the "ambiance". They also serve pastries, shown below:

20141106_214903

When I saw their pastries, everything that was displayed reminded me of S&Rs baked selection (sold at a higher price). I would not want to judge, but I just think that a cafe should have their own made pastries.

Moving on. Browsing through their collection, I saw a few gems, Marvel Comic Books! Yes, I am very much a Marvel fan. So I got a few books and read away.

In the middle of my reading spree (and sips of my Green Tea in between), I noticed that my shoulder was getting itchy and I was beginning to have a nasty skin rash. When I looked on the sofa where I was seated, there was a red insect that wen crawling down and inside to sofa.

This was practically the end of our stay there. It was a huge turn-off for me. Not being able to properly maintain furniture, to the point that insects would be living in them, is a big no-no for me.

If you plan to visit this cafe anytime soon, I suggest you don't sit of their couch / sofa (specially that sofa that I am sitting on) if you don't want to get bitten.

Our food-venture at Maginhawa was a success, with a few disappointments. But then again, it's all for the experience. If you do live around the QC area and would like to satisfy your cravings, then this place won't disappoint. As for me, I would still prefer going to Kapitolyo for my food cravings!

My Sampleroom VIP Gift

Last October 24, 2014, I availed of Sampleroom's VIP Package. Like what I mentioned in my previous entry, the new VIP Package costs Php 799 and samplers get the 1,000 points plus a free gift.

I've seen a lot of exciting items that Sampleroom gave as their VIP gift, and this made me even more excited to receive mine.

Today I got my VIP gift and I was left speechless. This is why...

SR1            SR2

I got a full size (40ml) Ferrari Light Essence Eau de Toilette which retails at around Php 1,700. This alone is worth more than the VIP fee, plus you still have the 1,000 points that you could use to purchase products. I already have a few items with me that I'll be writing about in the near future.

The new VIP membership is really worth every penny!

Thank you so much Sampleroom!!

Cream Silk Damage Control and Belo Intensive Whitening Bar

I ordered a few samples from Sampleroom last October 22, 2014 and the same were delivered on October 24, 2014. Just in time for me to try them out during the weekend.

Sampleroom has a very colorful and cute new packaging. I love how they made it more playful and appealing.

SR Pack

My loot:

SR3    Creamsilk    Belo

Cream Silk Damage Control Daily Treatment Conditioner

I love that it's a conditioner and treatment in one, it makes me save so much time in the shower. The first thing I noticed when I squeezed the product was that it had two colors, a white stripe and a pink stripe. As per the label, the pink strip is the treatment while the white stripe is the conditioner.

It has the same consistency with the previous version of the product and lathers very well on hair. My hair usually gets all dry and tangled up after I rinse off my shampoo, that's why I always use a conditioner. Upon application, I immediately noticed that my hair became softer and all the tangles were gone. It's also easy to rinse and doesn't leave a sticky feeling. I also love the mild scent that it leaves on the hair.

I have a very sensitive scalp, and it's really hard for me to find a replacement conditioner. I always use Cream Silk Dandruff Free, since it's able to tame my scalp from itching and flaking. I was hoping that the other Cream Silk line would be able to do the same, unfortunately, after 3 days of use, I already feel a slight itch and flaking on my scalp.

I love the fact that this product is able to make my hair look and feel healthier and I think that it will work well for those who's scalp is not that sensitive. As for me, I'll probably be combining this with my usual conditioner.

Belo Intensive Whitening Soap

For the longest time, I've been looking for a whitening soap that could actually bring back my fair skin without going through any visible peeling. It's not that I'm dark, I just want to remove the tan lines that I have which make my skin visibly uneven when I wear a tank top.

I've bought and used this product before, and I can say that it was able to provide results. It doesn't give you that drastic, instant whitening effect, but I can say that with continued use, it will deliver your desired results. That's why when I saw Sampleroom restock this item, I immediately grabbed one and am now in the pursuit to regain my fair skin.

My only complaint about this product is that it melts easily. You really need to cut it into strategic portions (good for 2-3 showers) so that the entire bar doesn't melt.

Product Rating: 4.25 / 5

Thank you so much Sampleroom for providing us with an avenue to test products before we buy them, or just to avail of products that we really like without spending anything!

More sampling to come. ^_^

One Happy Sampler ^_^

I've always been a fan of skin care, body care, hair care, and other products that can pamper my body. Luckily, about 2 years ago, Sample Room was launched.

Sample Room is basically a website wherein you get to sample different products for free (you only pay the shipping costs). Upon registration, you are granted with an initial 100 points which you can use to "purchase" your desired product. Each product has a corresponding point, and once you spend your points, you get to earn them back by rating and writing a review of the product you have chosen. It's really simple, and a lot of fun, sometimes you get a full size for a sample which makes it even more worth it!

I've been a member of Sample Room since December 3, 2012 and I was able to get a few good deals from sampling. During 2013, they launched the VIP Program wherein you can choose to purchase 1,000 points and get VIP status for Php 699. These points are re-usable for a period of two months. I availed of this last January 7, 2014 and I was able to maximize my points and get more than my money's worth! Here's a few of the items that I was able to try:

Recently, Sampleroom just launched a new VIP Program, wherein you shell out a minimal amount of Php 799 to get the 1,000 points and VIP status, but this time, you get a free gift package! Now that's what I call a steal! What makes it a lot better is that you get the free gift package EVERY TIME you sign up for VIP membership.

Other than that, listed below are the benefits that a VIP member gets.

I'm really excited to avail of their new VIP Program and I can't wait to see what's included in their free gift!

For the love of Japanese food!

If there's one thing that I could binge one, it would be Japanese food! On a particularly hungry day (or night), I would drag Kyle to one of my favorite stop for good Japanese food, Sambokojin. As most of you may already know, Sambokojin is a "grill and eat all you can" restaurant. Their buffet offers a lot of yakiniku varieties and a great plus is that they also serve cooked dishes. The cuisine is not limited to Japanese, but is composed of a fusion of Asian dishes.

Yesterday, our hunger pangs kicked-in, and we decided to treat it with a little Japanese cure :).

We were lucky enough to get seated immediately when we arrived at their West Avenue Branch, a bit past 12 noon.

On to the feast!

I immediately went to the sushi / sashimi station and was greeted by a colorful array of maki, sushi and sashimi.

s17    s16

My first two plates. Yes, I finished everything on those two plates. :D Both the salmon and tuna tasted fresh!

s1   s2   s4

Next stop, the meats! Sambokojin offers a wide assortment of both marinated and non-marinated meats. I love the fact that they serve quality USDA beef which are very tender and flavorful when cooked. They also have a variety of bacon and beef  rolls, including my favorites, the bacon-asparagus and beef-enoki. (YUM!).

s9   s8

They also have a fried station where you can eat tempura to your heart's content! I do advise not to binge on tempura as this can fill you up very fast because of all the breading and oil.

s12

Here's what we got:

s5      s6

s3      s7

I wasn't able to take anymore pictures after we sat down and started cooking. We got a few more plates after that round and also got some items from their dessert area.

Their dessert selections presented fresh fruits, assorted cakes and pastries, chocolate fondue and an ice cream station.

Our meal left us happy and very satisfied.

I find their buffet rate very reasonable. For just Php 699 per person (either lunch or dinner), you get to feast on quality dishes that will not disappoint your taste buds!

GOOD NEWS! They'll be opening a branch at SM MEGAMALL, soon.
