I just got Lucky!

It's been a while since I visited McKinley Hills, and I'm really glad I did last night. We had our dinner at Lucky's Burger Bar, Tuscany. We've already dined here when it was still The Burgery, our prior experience was only so-so, and I was hoping that they would redeem themselves with this major change.

We've been wanting to try their Crispy Bacon and Egg (who doesn't love bacon?), which is their version of the Baconsilog. We've read and seen a lot of good things about this dish, and we are undeniably excited to experience it for the low and affordable price of Php 183. Another item from their menu that caught my eye was the Ultimate Butter Fried Cheese Sandwich (Php 168). I've been having random grilled cheese sandwich cravings, and now, I finally got to satisfy it!

So we anxiously waited for our food, and it was my sandwich that first came out... Speechless! I was caught off guard and did not expect to see such a wonderful piece of sandwich. I had the biggest smile and was drooling while I took pictures of my ULTIMATE Butter Fried Cheese Sandwich.

Perfectly toasted bread stuffed with half an inch thick cheese (American cheddar), drizzled with maple syrup and served with Tomato Cream Soup. It was served on top of a wooden chopping board type of plate, which made it look even more lovely.

I took a bite and I think I died and went to grilled cheese sandwich heaven! I love that the maple syrup perfectly complimented the sandwich. Dip the sandwich in the soup and you'll be in for a medley of delicate flavors. It really is the ULTIMATE!

While I was having a moment with my sandwich, the "main event" was served. Behold! Bacon, bacon and more bacon!!

Generous pile of deep fried bacon served with a side of fried rice and topped with a sous-vide egg. Now that was a mouthful.

The bacon strips were crunchy to the point like it was like eating chicken skin! The egg was presented like a gem and Kyle enjoyed this for his last bite. This is probably the mother of all comfort food!

The Burgery, or should I say the now Lucky's has redeemed itself in my list! It would probably be one of my go-to places for delicious and affordable dishes! Two thumbs up!

Myth Busted

For quite some time now, I've been hearing and reading a lot of good feedback about the food at Grams Diner. I must admit that I was a bit skeptic to try their food since I found their offerings a bit pricey. But my curiosity to try the famed "World Famous Tapa" was enough for me to choose to dine here over Mercato.

The place wasn't packed, and we were able to get good seats. So we browsed through their menu and got the World Famous Tapa (dinner size - Php 460), Smothered Chicken (Php 350) and an order of their Bottomless Iced Tea (Php 105).

Their iced tea was served in a mason jar, and it had a very light and refreshing lemony flavor. We were pleasantly surprised when the tapa was served, because of the generous serving size. An order comes with a serving of rice and 2 eggs done your way.

Their tapa is more into the crunchy style than your usual juicy and "saucy" tapa. Unfortunately, the taste was no where near to being "world famous" in my book. The meat tasted similar to the skin of Jollibee's Chicken Joy (so sad). For the price, it was utterly disappointing and definitely not worth it. In a heartbeat, I would go for Mr. Jone's or Banapple's yummy tapa!

So the Smothered Chicken was served, and I was not impressed with the presentation. I was expecting a dish that was "smothered" with cheese, but what I got was just a slice of cheese (American Cheddar, I think), melted on top of the grilled chicken. On the up side, it was served with a side of home-made mashed potatoes and buttered vegetables.

As to the taste of the chicken, it was also not impressive. The chicken skin had a lot of charred parts, which became the dominant flavor of the dish. Nothing special about it.

The only thing that we both loved about dining here was just the Bottomless Iced Tea. With the amount that we spent, we should have just filled our tummies at Mercato.
